Frozen In Time

Strange to be putting up a winter pivcture in the summer.

I have wanted to add this to my gallery since I took it back in January. I came back to it today in my archive and decided to process it properly and have another look.
I made a choice to go out on this morning knowing that the sky would probably stay white, conditions which usually put off landscape photographers. I wanted to make a more graphic landscape using the white sky to my advantage, a technique which I have seen with architectural shots. I realise that many will consider the lack of detail and clipping in the sky to be a problem.
I like the sense of space and stillness which it gives the image and think that it has added to the freezing conditions and the minimal composition.

This is the River Hamble near Southampton in Hampshire. it was probably 5 or 6 degrees below zero at the time and although the river is tidal here ice sheets still covered areas close to the bank.
