My Bio

I am a photographer from the South of England. I have always had a passion for the natural world and it is my intention to try to convey that love to others through my artwork. I adore being close to the sea and therefore many of my photography missions take me to stretches of the British coastline.

I owe much of my talent to my friends here on DA, before I joined I really had little idea about the true disciplines of photography. Although I spent many years teaching myself the technical side and building up my kit, it has been here on DA that I have really been able to develop my skills for the "creation of captured art".

Yep, changed my username. Bought premium membership in order to do it. I've not liked my username for some years and always wished I just used my actual name. I got it..... Glad to see others have done the same.

Canon 5D mark iii, why?

Just my opinions..... If you (or I) are serious about landscape photography image quality right now then we should go out and buy a Nikon D800. Simple. In terms of image quality the D800 far exceeds all other current DSLR cameras, it matches the quality of some digital medium format backs and surpasses most medium format digital cameras. Add to that Nikons brilliant glass and you won't need any more resolution or image quality for any application. I cannot afford to sell up with Canon and move to Nikon and although I have considered it many times in the past and now, in light of the D800, seriously considered it, I won't. Mainly the reason

DISASTER!

Last weekend I managed to throw my canon 24-105mm L IS lens off of a cliff! I was perched on the edge of a cliff with my camera. After waiting for the sun to set and getting my last shot for the day I reached out and grabbed my rucksack from it's very secure position. I had not zipped it up since swapping lenses some time before and had only flapped the front over it. As I swung it onto my back out flew my lens and 2 lens hoods. I saw the whole thing in slow motion. A 70m drop onto rocks saw off my lens with a hideous smashing noise ringing in my ears....I can still hear it. 2 photographers on the beach below saw me do it.
