Slipping Away

A tiny secluded bay, North Coast, Cyprus.

I visited this bay on 3 early morning occasions during my stay in Cyprus. It was one of the closest coves to my accommodation. on the first 2 visits I had no luck with the conditions. Clouds hugged the hills in the early hours preventing the sun from lighting the scene.

On this, my last visit on my last morning the clouds were higher in the sky. This allowed the first light to shine through and light up these rocks. Perfect.

The title has two meanings, it is a suggestion of the movement in the tide seen in the image but more profoundly of the 'Slipping Away' of this beautiful and wild part of Cyprus and of many places I observed in my travels there.
The tourist and immigration industry is seriously taking it's toll on the island of Cyprus. Progress is too fast and unsustainable. Already illegal hotels, villas and apartments have been throw up along the sea front. Laws and planning regulations are blatently flouted. Potential profit is more important than wildlife and wilderness. Overfishing has long since devestated local fishstocks and illegal hunting is rife.
