One Moment of Colour

Description

Portland Bill, Dorset UK.

For just minutes the sun was visible. I had taken a shot earlier of this scene before the sun had risen. When I saw that it might emerge from behind the cloud I had to run across rocky terrain with camera and tripod set up. I plonked my tripod down and had time (just) to frame the scene and capture the light.....

I didn't check the aperture setting on my camera, it was set to f18 because I had been shooting for maximum exposure time. A big regret. Due to diffraction this image is noticably soft and would not print as well as I would like.

NOTE TO SELF: never shoot above f16 again with my Canon 5D it really isn't worth it!

I'm glad I don't have the 5DMKii as it is really only usable to f11 maximum and that is not enough for sharp foreground to background landscape work......

This is a great example of diffraction and how to make the best of it.
We would love to use it as an example. if this is a problem then just let us know.
