As luck would have it and it does only seem to be luck, friday afternoon had some promising weather conditions. I always try to get my working week done as soon as possible which gives me some respite from work and a chance to go out with my camera. Usually something lets me down. Often it will be the weather, we get an awful lot of overcast days here and I am certain most of them are on fridays.......
I forced myself out and was chasing the rainstorms on my journey down to the New Forest. Promising. Inbetween the rain, the light was vibrant and moody, mist rose from the wet roads and fields.
I have visited this scene previously and was not really satisfied by the conditions [link] Today was far more interesting. As I arrived soaked from the wet grass, the sky above and most of the way around was grey with big rain clouds. I set up a shot regardless in the hope that I would get some kind of light through a gap in the weather. Tripod legs in water and camera protected by a carrier bag, the rain started to come down. I only had about 45 minutes before the sun would be too low in the sky to light the scene and really didn't think that was going to happen. As luck would have it about 35 mins later this. A glimmer of bright sun through the clouds. Within minutes it was dimming and soon gone.
I shot 3 bracketed exposures without filters and used 2 layered and masked together for this final image.
Seems to be only you and I who think that. Funny ain't it? Cheers. Actually I kind wish I hadn't put the others up, I easn't going to but got carried away processing.
I would go up the day before and stay in a B&B for the weekend. No missing out on sleep for me, I'll be no good with a camera after that! It's about 4 hours from here, same distance as Cornwall. Leave at about midday on a friday, shoot all weekend.....
Seal's still about are they. We ought to go, i thought you were going with family?
