Loch Bad a Ghaill by JakeSpain Loch Bad a Ghaill by JakeSpain
Loch Bad a Ghail showing the mountains; to the left Stac Pollaidh then Cul Beag and Ben Mor Coigach in the centre right.

I fear this will need further processing, having a bit of a nightmare with it...Criticism welcome.

The photo is beautiful, the foreground really makes the image giving interest to the water with the rocks, the lighting looks great too.

The image as a whole is wonderful- the foreground in particular's great. The mountains could do with a few tweaks, but the photograph looks beautiful.

Thanks Steve. Actually my preference for mountain shots is to take them from ground level. Alex was all up for climbing them and as fun as that was I would have liked to shoot more of the region like this...Next time eh?

looking nice as it is to me mate, presumably any nightmare you're having is with blending? looks well done and nicely balanced. if you're looking for more to process though I might suggest a slight lift to the foreground shadows on the shore and the darker rocks, just a touch... if you can be arsed there's a little bit of red/cyan fringing on the leftmost peak too :) anyway lovely light and nicely composed, very pretty view!

have you actually tried that adjustment. I was about to suggest that but I didnt like the change.

I didn't... but I have just now just to see... tried it with a gradient mask to just adjust the bottom of the frame and didn't like it much, but as a subtle all-over adjustment I think bringing up the shadows juuust a touch improves it slightly.. kind of splitting hairs though!

Fantastic matey. It looks great as it is, but I'd be tempted to make some tweaks also I expect, just to give it a little "lift" so to speak :D

Planning a trip up to the highlands in September. Last time I went I was only just getting back into photography and had just a prosumer, this time I have the whole kit-ka-boodle. Really excited!

I hope you had a lovely time up there.

It rocks up there, I'd go back tomorrow if it weren't for work....
Sept is a good time I hear, no midges.
Thanks.

Hopefully, though last time I went was in a September, and I got bitten to shreds at Loch Garry ([link]), though that was the only time I remember them! :D

To be honest, I really like this image. The tonality in the rocks is amazing, it has good contrast and the composition is working. The only things is that it appears you have lost some detail in the brightest parts of the clouds.

Thanks James, yes I have lost some detail there, I'll look into my capture frames and attempt to correct.
