Description

West Pier Brighton.

This turned out to be a processing experiment. It is not an inverted negative. The street lights on Brighton Promenade were reflecting off the otherwise dark pier. The sun had gone down and I knew that I could capture the lit up subject. The pier and the sea picked up the orange/red glow of the illuminations whilst the sky stayed a dark blue.

I realised that I could process the colour file as a black and white and bring out the pier by boosting the reds, oranges and yellows and darken the sky by turning down the blues. It appears as if it's a negative. Processing and B&W conversion was done in Lightroom. I had a very messy sea in the image due to the shoreline in the original file also being lit by the illuminations. So I have used a gradient to replace it.
In it's finnished form it reminds me of the skeleton of a whale or a sea monster hence "Leviathan"
