Description

This is turning into a bit of a series of images (I'll probably add a third tommorrow) so if anyone is board by this lighthouse then I appologise!

I have had a nightmare taking any photos over the last few days, it has been a real challenge. I have been battling the elements and sea spray. All of my usual methods have failed. I have had to lose my filters due to them being covered with spray in seconds. I have had to move back from the sea and adopt a telephoto lens.

Anyway, I have now learnt a new method and practiced it for several hours whilst enjoying the scenes of fast moving weather presented to me.

This image needed a lot of processing work to show it to it's full potential. I had a perfectly exposed and sharp image to work with. Due to the conditions the contrast of the scene was really low and the colours very subdued.

I have used 2 exposures from the one RAW image which I shot and added these as layers in photoshop. One for the sky/colour in the sea at the bottom of the image the other for the island and rocks. I have very carefully blended these together working around the lighthouse faultlessly so that my changes are unobvious. I added a futher layer (duplicated from the original) and boosted the highlights with a clever adjustment curve. Again I worked this so it is only visible where I needed it, on the white horses on the waves and again on the lighthouse. It's been a pretty extensive PS job but I think the results are worth while??

Great work mate!

My only very minor critique would be that the island and light house seem to be in a little hazy, so my eye is drawn more to the stronger foreground.

But as I said, very minor and picky complaint - great work :)
